Roundtable #3

Starting from the cultural mediation project Art Truck at the Bois-Mermet prison, this roundtable will address the question of cultural participation in the carceral environment. What are its specificities, constraints, and potential strengths? Does art have emancipatory power, or is it merely a brief interlude in a highly regulated daily life? Is it valuable for society to enable incarcerated people to relearn how to make choices and defend them? What about international perspectives? Through the combined experiences of professionals from the penitentiary field, an elected official, an artist, and a cultural mediator, the discussion will shed light on both the limitations and the strengths of such initiatives, as well as their relationship to reintegration.

Roundtable #2, broadcast live on Radio 40

Dedicated to the question of diversity and institutions—whether in art schools, festivals, museums, or art spaces—the second roundtable of CALM – Centre d’Art La Meute explores and analyses the current modalities and strategies of cultural inclusion. What does the term “diversity” mean in 2024? How can we account for the complexity of this notion within exhibition, mediation, and education programmes in contemporary art? The invited guests, active in both institutional and alternative contexts across Europe and the Middle East, will discuss these questions and share their experiences.
