ENTAME [1/3] – DU CALM

An artistic project by the housing cooperative La Meute, which has just welcomed its residents to the eco-district of Plaines du Loup in Lausanne, Le CALM – Centre d’Art La Meute will inaugurate its first exhibition on October 8.

Located on the ground floor of La Meute, open both to the Loup park and the surrounding developing neighborhood, Le CALM – Centre d’Art La Meute, covering approximately 150 m², will host exhibitions and a cinema program, as well as performances and concerts. Managed by an association, Le CALM will stand for initiatives that are both unifying and cutting-edge in this rapidly changing area of Lausanne.

“Du CALM” its first exhibition running until October 29, will give the residents the opportunity to revisit “The People’s Choice” conceived in New York in 1981. To inaugurate their space, the collective Group Material had invited their neighbors to lend an object of sentimental value, whether or not it was artistic. The ephemeral collection thus assembled was presented to the public for the duration of the exhibition, subtitled Arroz con mango in reference to the neighborhood’s predominantly Spanish-speaking population and the eclectic nature of the gathered artifacts. Unique combinations and encounters will also take place in Lausanne, with over fifty pieces already promised by the residents. Accompanied by anecdotes and other stories that introduce them, the works and objects will create a collective conversation.

This first exhibition is part of the triptych “ENTAME” CALM’s inaugural program, which includes two group exhibitions and a double solo show. The three presentations and their accompanying events express the desire to “build community" to showcase works and practices that are new or rarely seen in Lausanne, to seek connections with the national contemporary art scene, and to highlight the international scope of artistic positions in the extended Lake Geneva region.
